KOPJE is funded by readers, advertisers and partners. This page explains every commercial relationship that touches what you see on the site, and how we label it.
No advertiser, sponsor or partner has the power to commission, edit, kill or alter the substance of KOPJE's journalism. The editorial team and the commercial team are run separately. Where the two intersect — sponsored content, native advertising, referral partnerships — that fact is disclosed in plain language at the point the reader encounters it.
We accept display and native advertising via reputable third-party platforms (currently Taboola; Outbrain and Google AdSense may be added). Native ad units appear in clearly labelled modules with the words “Sponsored” or “You may like” and the name of the advertising platform. They are not editorial recommendations.
Click data from these placements is processed by the advertising platform under their own privacy policy. See our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy for details on the data shared.
Sponsored articles are commercial content paid for by an external brand. When KOPJE publishes one, it is:
noindex) and from the standard editorial homepage. We do not publish sponsored articles in finance, health, legal, political or election-related categories.
KOPJE runs interactive quizzes that, where appropriate, can connect qualified readers with vetted partners — for example, an FSCA-licensed financial adviser, an NCR-registered bond originator, an EAAB-registered estate agent, or a vetted travel concierge. Three things you should know:
KOPJE may include affiliate links (where KOPJE earns a small commission if you purchase through the link) in shopping, motoring and travel coverage. Affiliate links are marked, and they never determine which products are reviewed or how favourably they're reviewed.
Travel coverage, food reviews and motoring tests sometimes involve flights, accommodation, vehicles or meals provided by the company being covered. Where this occurs, it is disclosed at the foot of the article in italics — for example: “Anette du Plessis travelled to Hermanus as a guest of [Hotel].” The provision of hospitality does not guarantee favourable coverage; we reserve the right to publish a critical review.
If you spot an article that should be labelled and isn't — or one you believe is mislabelled — please email editors@kopje-mag.com.
